"The activities spark curiosity and questioning on the part of the children. [...] It introduces children to a pretty sophisticated concept of color and light in a way that is understandable at the lower grade levels."
- Lou Karas, our client
Prompt
Create something that could be used by K-2 children that represents the intersection of art and science through the lens of color mixing
Challenges
- Designing for a specific demographic (K-2 kids) with the goal of engaging kids to learn
- Focusing on light color mixing, and making sure to distinguish it from paint color mixing
- Rapid hardware prototyping with robustness being one of key pillars
- Designing documentations that allow our client to re-create the prototypes that we delivered
What Did I Do?
As a Producer:
- Ran the daily stand-ups and tracking the progress of the team
- Set up playtests and collecting feedback from our playtesters
- Had one-on-ones with the team members to take pulse of the project and check in on how they felt about the project and themselves
- Made and maintained the project’s website while the project was going on.
- Wrote and updated development blogs every week
As a Designer:
- Contributed to the brainstorming and the tweaking of the prototypes
- Interpreted the feedback and turned them into actionable items
- Made the documentation for the project for future use and potential to replicate
- Created 4 tutorial videos, one for each prototype
As an Artist
- Handcrafted shadow puppets for the shadow puppet activity
- Made the promo video for the project
Deliverables
The Music Light Strip Activity
The Shadow Puppet Activity
The Color Wheel Activity
The Whiteboard Activity
Process
We came up with 50 ideas during the brainstorming phase
We organized the ideas and concluded our first draft of concepts
Initially prototyped in Unity
